To Be Young And Homeless in New York City
The following photos address the issue of homeless youth in New York City. Offshoring, outsourcing, and student loan debt (over one trillion dollars), combined with the cost of maintaining 900 military bases around the world, have left vast numbers of American youth without housing, health care, education and jobs.
Today, millions of Americans are living a nightmare similar to what Germans experienced during The Weimar Republic, which saw the annihilation of vast numbers of middle class families.
The New Deal, which formed the basis of America’s welfare state and established a middle class which was the envy of millions around the world, lies in ruins. Foreign wars in Iraq (four trillion dollars), and Afghanistan (two trillion dollars), have also contributed to the decimation of an American middle class, once mighty, proud and free.
These are the faces of the New Economy.
